WTA is committed to promoting poverty alleviation through tourism.
The sharing accommodation, through its vigorous development, not only brings economic and social benefits to its destination community, but also contributes to the breaking-down of regional and cultural barriers and building-up of a more open and inclusive society. In 2017, Airbnb, a WTA member, brought into full play its advantages as one of the forerunners of sharing economy and developed a 4-in-1 approach to poverty alleviation that interconnects the business (Airbnb), governments, local communities and expertise. This approach has been adopted in the successful practice of targeted support in the Jinjiang Village of Guilin. The unique role it has demonstrated in the transformation of local production, development of new means of livelihood, protection of ecological environment and inheritance of local ethnical cultures has proven the feasibility to achieve poverty alleviation through tourism in China.
To dig into the important role of sharing economy in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, WTA, incollaboration with Airbnb, hereby presents the 3rd WTA Member's Day of 2019, taking place from June 13 to 14 in the Guilin City of Guangxi, China.

Shijun Liu
Secretary-General at World Tourism Alliance
Liu Shijun graduated from the Tourism Department of Beijing International Studies University and holds an EMBA of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. He once worked as Director-General, Department of Marketing and International Cooperation of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA)，Secretary-General of China Tourism Association (CTA), Counsel of the General Administrative Office, Deputy Director-General, Department of Industry Management and Standardization, Deputy Counsel, Department of Tourism Promotion and International Liaison of CNTA, and Director of China National Tourist Office in New Delhi and Sydney respectively. Mr. Liu is a veteran in tourism marketing and branding，industry management and standardization and owns rich experiences in the sector as he has worked in industry associations and overseas organizations with excellent organizational, communicative and language competence.He was represented CNTA in the Asian Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus.
Tao Peng
President at Airbnb China
Tao joined Airbnb as President of Airbnb China in August 2018. Tao graduated from the University of Melbourne with Ph.D degree in computer networks. He is an adventurous traveler, an energetic entrepreneur and a geek in heart who wants to make the world a better place. Tao has left footprints on over 50 countries and 7 continents. He worked for McKinsey & Co. for 2 years as a management consultant and has over 12 years experience in building companies such as network security provider IntelliGuard and social travel platform Breadtrip. He is named as one of the top 50 innovative business leaders by Caijing Weekly in 2015. He is also one of the 12 Australian Alumni Ambassador globally. In his spare time, Tao loves sports and reading.
Jigang Bao
Professor of the School of Tourism Management at Sun Yat-sen University
BAO Jigang, PhD, Professor of the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University, Doctoral Tutor, Changjiang Distinguished Professor, Member of UNWTO’s Panel of Experts, Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.
He is currently Director of the Monitoring Center for UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Observatories, Member of China Tourism Reform and Development Advisory Committee, President of Tourism Education Branch of the China Tourism Association.
His main research fields are: basic theory of tourism geography, sustainable tourism development , theme parks and tourism planning.
